SAN DIEGO STATE CLASSIC

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia's Savannah De Bock was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women's golf on Wednesday, a day after recording the first top-10 finish of her collegiate career.

De Bock shot 1-under 215 to finish fifth at the San Diego State Classic at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Sante Fe, the third top-20 but first top-10 effort in three tournaments at Georgia. The native of Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium, joined the Bulldogs as a mid-year enrollee in January and placed 11th at the Lady Bulldog Individual Championship and 14th at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club before this week's performance.

De Bock provided Georgia with its lowest score in each round of the SDSU Classic, posting consecutive 1-under 71s in a 36-hole day on Monday and returning for a 73 on Tuesday. The golfers who finished ahead of De Bock on the leaderboard are No. 5, No. 7, No. 8 and No. 12 in this week's NCAA Spikemark individual rankings. De Bock debuted at No. 27 in this week's national ledger.

In addition to De Bock, fifth-year senior Caterina Don is No. 23 in this week's national rankings, while the Bulldogs remained No. 30 as a team following a fourth-place finish in California.

Georgia will return to action in three and a half weeks when the Bulldogs trek to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. All three rounds of that tournament will feature live coverage on the Golf Channel from 2:30-5:30 on March 4-6.
