Savannah de Bock Named MAC Golfer of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference (MAC) has named Eastern Michigan University sophomore Savannah de Bock the MAC Women's Co-Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Friday, Sept. 27. De Bock, who won her first collegiate title earlier in the week, shares the weekly award with Veronika Kendronova of Kent State University following a vote of the league's head coaches.

It was a historic tournament for de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colo., Sept. 23-25, as she carded a school-record 204 (70-65-69) to earn medalist honors by three strokes and helped the Eagles to the eighth-best team score in program history. Only the 15th individual winner in program history (24th title captured), de Bock climbed from a tie for 10th following a first round 70 into a tie for first by carding a school-record 65 in the second round, which bested the previous record of 66 shot by Kelsey Murphy in 2015. On the final day, de Bock shot 69 to claim the title and shoot under par for the fifth round already this season (six rounds played). Overall, her 204 bettered the previous school record by seven strokes, lowering the mark from the 211 Anna Watson shot in 2023. Overall, de Bock tallied a tournament-leading 16 birdies with just four bogies over the three days of play.

As a team, Eastern shot 302 in the opening round to sit 15th overall before sliding down to 16th after shooting 306 in round two. But the Eagles came together as a team and shot a final round 285 - the fourth-lowest of the day - to move up to 12th place, the team's best finish in two tournaments in 2024. On a historical level, the 893 total score ranks as the eighth-lowest in program history and just the 17th time the program has fired 899 or lower.

The individual award earned by de Bock is the first for the Eagles this year and the first in just over two years. The last time an Eastern women was honored was Sept. 7, 2022, with Alyssa DiMarcantonio earning the honor. DiMarcantonio was coming off winning the A-Ga-Ming Invitational hosted by Central Michigan University, Sept. 4-5.

The Eagles have a two-week break before they return to action at the 2024 Marilynn Smith Sunflower Open, Oct. 7-8, in Lawrence, Kan. The two-day event will be played at the Lawrence Country Club with the University of Kansas playing host to the tournament.
